10 movies you'd only watch because of the car(s) in them.

Now, these are not great movies. In fact, some are really pretty awful, with poor acting and plots so predictible you'll feel like you've seen the same movie before, because you probably have.
Not all are terrible though. In fact, some are quite good entertainment if you like cars. However, for some the only real reason to watch them is because they contain cool cars. Click on the movie title for the link to their page on IMDB and watch the related video on YouTube if you're curious. Enjoy!
Charlie Sheen stars in this. Apparently, he really doesn't like this movie, but hey, we all make mistakes when we're young. Charlie Sheen is still making mistakes, but let's not get into that now.
This movie has all of the necessary 1980's action movie elements; hot cars, car chases, explosions, a pretty girl and a VERY basic plot.
The best reason to watch this movie is for the star of this show the 'Dodge M4S Turbo Interceptor'. It's the black car that the main character drives, and it still looks futuristic despite being built in the 1980's.
If you decide to watch this movie, keep this in mind; This movie was made in the 1980's so nothing could be believably faked. The technology of the time didn't allow for realistic CGI so there isn't any. The stunts and explosions are real.
Tommy Lee Jones and Linda Hamilton star in this unknown gem. This is actually one of my favourite 1980's movies because it is actually a well executed movie. The acting is excellent, and the plot is somewhat believable if a little dated. The 'Black Moon' car is a 'Wingho Concordia II' and looks quite cool. There is only one, so some mock up vehicles were made for various scenes. This also is a movie for lovers of 1980's cars, so if you're watching closely you'll see some period classics.
This movie has some pretty silly stunts in it, but I suppose they were used to highlight how awesome the 'Black Moon' car is. Given that there has been some more ridiculous stunts in more recent movies, relatively they're not that bad.
This movie has some quite memorable scenes in it. You'll immediately know what I'm talking about if you watch it.

Dolph Lundgren stars with the gorgeous Kristian Alfonso in this action packed cheese fest. The scenes are predictable, the plot is obvious, but the cars in the latter parts are reason enough to watch this.
No doubt some replicas of the actual cars were used for some if not all of the scenes, but they look gorgeous and believably correct. The performance of the hot cars is realistic also in that they will outrun ordinary Police cars. So many other movies always overlook this, and instead show a close chase despite the performance difference of the cars featured.
There are even some genuinely amusing moments and decent acting in between the almost comical action sequences.

This movie is pretty terrible. It's hard to follow and focuses on completely unrelated characters to the main characters in some scenes. No doubt this was done in an attempt to build a story, but the story becomes too hard to follow and as such isn't built up enough to be engaging.
The driving sequences are ok, but there isn't really that much drifting. The star is the 'Mitsubishi Starion 4WD Rally' car, but it isn't shown enough. There are some other nice cars too, and some of the scenes with cars racing through the mountainside look spectacular, but it just isn't enough. The only reason I watched this movie was because of the Starion.

If you like pretty girls and/or guys and Japanese cars especially the Datsun 240Z, then this a good movie for you. It's based on the popular Anime series of the same name, but is live action so features real cars and real people.
The story is primarily about  a Japanese teenager who falls in love with a particular Datsun 240Z that is believed to be possessed. It is hence named 'Devil Z'
The cars are awesome, the driving sequences are fairly well executed despite some obvious CGI, sped up film and unrealistic crashes, and there is a tangible sense of drama.
It stays relatively faithful to the original comic and Anime series save for a few things, so it's worth a watch.

Another movie for Japanese cars, based on the Anime series of the same name. This is a live action movie that features real cars and real people.
The story is primarily about  a Japanese teenager named Takumi who delivers tofu for his father's tofu shop. Takumi delivers in the early morning hours to the top of a mountain, so he has plenty
of time and opportunity to master the art of 'Drifting'. However, he is actually unaware that he mastering a skill that so many people revere, and something his father was famous for.
Anyway, the cars are awesome, the driving sequences are fairly well executed despite some fairly obvious CGI, and the story is engaging enough for the car enthusiast.
Curiously, this is a Chinese not Japanese production, so changes to the plot and characters are obvious if you're familiar with the original Anime. It's still worth watching though.

The plot of this movie is very similar to that of Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift.
A wild young man gets sent away because he's misbehaving and has outstayed his welcome where he currently lives.
Obviously he still has a hard time in his new home, but that's all you're going to find out here.
This movie is about drag racing featuring the age old American debate of American Muscle versus Imports.
All of the essential elements are there, fast cars, pretty girls, the acting is decent, and the car sequences are quite well done.
It's surprisingly good entertainment and worth a watch, If a tad predictable.
Apparently there's also a sequel with different actors in the previous roles. Hmmm. The verdict isn't out yet.

The premise here is exotic car racing. Racing exotic cars everywhere.
Big money changes hands, and cars are traded between winners and losers of betting on the races.
We are meant to be impressed by the amounts of money and the types of cars, but the latter is probably this movie's only redeeming quality.
Essentially, A young woman who owns a car performance garage gets recognised for her ability to drive by a rich playboy, and she's convinced to race for high stakes.
Pretty standard fare now, and there have been several movies before and since with pretty much the same story line.
Probably most interesting was what was going on with Producer and Writer Daniel Sadek in real life at the time, and what happened to his Ferrari Enzo F60.
Apparently, all of the cars featured in this movie are or were owned by him.

1980's cheesiest at it's very best or worst depending on your opinion.
The Cannonball is a race across the USA with the winner receiving $1,000,000.
The objective is to be as tricky and sneaky as you can, because everyone else is doing the same thing.
These movies are not meant to be taken seriously at all, but are meant to be enjoyed with a couple of friends laughing at the absurdity of it all.
All 3 movies are pretty much the same movie just with different cars, and in the case of the third movie,
different characters and actors also.
The cars themselves are really the stars of the show, and there are some pretty spectacular stunts.
Also, keep an eye out for loads of cameo appearances by well known celebrities and actors.

More 1980's cheese, but aimed squarely at a child audience. To be expected from a movie produced by Walt Disney Films.
Here we have the actor and singer Michael Crawford playing a comic book artist who dreams of being a secret agent.
Through a bizarre and unexpected twist of fate, he accidentally becomes a somewhat bumbling one.
This movie is filled with clever gadgets and eventually hosts quite an impressive and memorable car chase.
Of note are the black Porsches and the main character's custom car.
This is worth a watch, but only, like most of the movies in this list, because of the cars. Or if it brings back some childhood memories.
